On a road glued to a vertical rock wall, several vehicles were trying to haul up a lorry that had fallen a few dozen metres. We squeezed past them, pressed against the rock. Then our driver, overcome with curiosity, pulled towards the edge to get a better look at his colleague’s fate. One wheel slipped off the road. He straightened the wheel, opened his door and checked how many centimetres were left between us and the drop. His alarm system consisted of screams of varying intensity. We drove on.
