THE COURSE
The Complete Immersion Course, Plus the Depth
The Tsa Lung content of Depth & Mind is the complete five-day Immersion course, spread across eight days so that every morning stays free for the water and there is an extra day to let the practice settle: about 28 hours of instruction and guided practice in all. I lead it as a certified Gentle Tsa Lung and Intense Tsa Lung teacher in the lineage of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche. See my profile in the official teacher directory →
- preparatory breathing and movement
- practices for balancing the breath and working with the channels
- vase breathing and breath retention
- movement sequences coordinated with breathing and attention
- visualisation practices
- periods of rest and calm-abiding meditation
- guidance for continuing the practice independently
Freediving
Freediving is taught by AIDA- or SSI-certified instructors based in Dahab, in small groups with a strict buddy system. Beginners follow the structure of a first-level course (AIDA 2 or SSI Level 1) and can complete the certification during the week: relaxation and static breath-hold, equalisation, free immersion, then constant-weight dives along the line to a depth that feels right for you. Certified freedivers train their own depth and technique with the same coaches. Six coached sessions are included: five in open water at Lighthouse Reef and the Blue Hole, and one pool and dry-training day in the middle of the week to let the ears and the body recover.
How the Two Fit Together
Freediving happens in the morning, when the sea is at its calmest. Tsa Lung happens on land, several hours later. The two are never mixed: breath retention in Tsa Lung is practised only in the afternoon session, well after diving, and breath-hold in the water follows the instructors’ own safety protocols, never alone and never with Tsa Lung techniques. What connects them is quieter than technique: a relaxed, unhurried breath, attention to the phases of breathing, and the ability to stay calm while the body is under pressure. That is what you train on the mat, and what the sea asks of you.

TYPICAL SCHEDULE
Day 1 · Arrival & Preparing Body, Breath & Mind
Posture and adaptations · Self-massage · Nine Breaths Exercise · Checking and balancing the breath · Vajra Breath · Shamatha meditation
Arrival by early afternoon. A first quiet session of about two hours, then an evening briefing with the freediving instructors: medical forms, equipment fitting, the plan for the week. No diving on the first day.
Day 2 · Foundations & Channels
Preliminary channel practices (with a short, simplified breath retention) · Introduction to Tongra, the empty red body · Central channel · Preliminary wind practices · Shamatha
Morning: freediving theory, relaxation and static breath-hold, first open-water session at Lighthouse Reef.
Day 3 · Channels & Visualisation
Three channels · Four chakras · Dülta Chen · Gangwa Chen · Shamatha
Morning: equalisation, free immersion and first constant-weight dives along the line. Visualisation is developed progressively rather than trying to hold the complete inner structure immediately.
Day 4 · Holding the Wind
Bumpa Chen (Vase Breathing) · Rengpa Chen · Three Clearing Obstacles practices · Holding the Wind without Number: awareness of the phases of breath, white, red and blue light, OM AH HUNG · Shamatha
A day out of the sea: pool and dry training with the instructors in the morning, so that the ears and the body recover. Vase Breathing is introduced on this day, with no diving before or after it. Retention develops gradually; there is no objective to achieve a maximum holding time.
Day 5 · Trül Khor I
Khu Tsur Gyab Dung · Pü Ken Pü Kyang · Tö Me Bar Sum · Nölden Lü Chu · Senge Nam Dröl · Shamatha
Morning: depth session at the Blue Hole.
Day 6 · Trül Khor II & Concluding Practices
Gyatso Tsub Trug · Pang Ne Ri Phül · Nam Chag Par Dzin · Senge Nam Dröl · Concluding Tsa Lung exercises · Integration of movement, breath and visualisation · Shamatha
Morning: open-water session, rescue and buddy skills, certification dives for those completing the course.
Day 7 · Depth & Integration
Complete guided Tsa Lung practice · Individual technique corrections · Refining breath retention and visualisation · Working with your own rhythm · Questions and discussion · Creating a personal practice for the following month
Morning: a last session in the sea, free training at your own pace with the coaches, with nothing left to pass. The afternoon contains no new material. The focus is on making the complete practice coherent, familiar and sustainable after the journey.
Day 8 · Departure
A gentle morning practice without breath retention, breakfast, and the transfer to the airport.
A Typical Day (Days 2–7)
- 07:00–07:30 · Gentle morning practice without breath retention: self-massage, Nine Breaths, quiet breathing
- 07:30 · Light breakfast
- 08:30–12:00 · Freediving: transfer to the site, briefing, about two hours in the water, debrief and theory
- 12:30 · Lunch
- 13:30–15:30 · Quiet hours in the heat of the day: rest, sleep, read, do nothing
- 15:30–18:00 · Main Tsa Lung session, with a short break
- 18:15–18:45 · Shamatha meditation
- 19:30 · Dinner
- 20:30–21:15 · Evening session: visualisation, questions, time to sit
About four and a half hours of Tsa Lung a day on Days 2–7, about two hours on the arrival day and a short practice on the morning of departure. Practices with breath retention are placed in the afternoon session, several hours after diving and well after lunch. Water times move slightly with the wind and the conditions at the site, and the instructors decide on the day.

ACCOMMODATION & MEALS
Dahab, rooms and meals
Dahab is a small town on the Sinai coast of the Red Sea, with deep, clear and calm water a few steps from the shore, which is why freedivers from all over the world train here. The group stays in twin rooms in a quiet guesthouse near the sea, a short walk from the freediving centre and from Lighthouse Reef.
Three meals a day are provided. Breakfast is light and taken before diving, lunch comes after the water, and dinner is served after the evening session. Meals are mainly vegetarian; other dietary requirements are agreed in advance.
Alcohol is not included and is not used during the journey.

HEALTH & PARTICIPATION
No previous experience of Tsa Lung, yoga, meditation or freediving is required. You should be a confident swimmer, comfortable in open water, and able to swim 200 metres without stopping.
The course includes physical movement, controlled breathing and breath retention on land, and breath-hold diving in the sea under instruction. Each Tsa Lung practice can be taught in its Gentle or Intense form, depending on your physical condition. Retention is built up gradually; dizziness or numbness is a sign to practise more gently. Tsa Lung breath retention is never practised in the water or on the same morning as diving, and you never hold your breath in the water alone. The freediving instructors require a signed medical statement before the first session.
The program is not suitable during pregnancy. Before booking, please inform me about high blood pressure, cardiovascular or respiratory conditions including asthma, epilepsy, glaucoma or retinal problems, ear, sinus or equalisation problems, recent surgery or injury, hernia, or any other condition affected by breath retention, pressure or physical movement.

LOCATION & ACCESS
Dahab is on the Gulf of Aqaba, about an hour’s drive from Sharm El Sheikh airport.
A group transfer from the airport is included: one vehicle each way, leaving at a time agreed with the group once flights are known. I share the exact address and practical instructions after your booking is confirmed.
Lighthouse Reef is within walking distance of the town centre; the Blue Hole is about twenty minutes away by car along the coast. Both drop steeply into deep, sheltered water a few metres from the shore, which is what makes Dahab one of the best places in the world to learn to freedive.
