Tsa Lung

Tibetan Practice of Breath, Energy and Mind

Tsa Lung is a Tibetan practice combining breathing, movement and attention. In Tibetan, tsa means channels and lung means wind or vital energy associated with the breath. In the traditional Tibetan model, body and mind are connected through the movement of wind within the channels.

What is Tsa Lung

Tsa Lung is a Tibetan yogic practice combining breathing, movement and awareness.

Tsa Lung goes beyond simply coordinating movement and breath. This ancient Tantrayana practice combines specific physical movements with deliberate breath retention and visualization to move lung—wind-energy—through tsa, the subtle channels of the body. By working with the wind, the practice also works directly with the mind, leading from dynamic movement into deep inner stillness.

The practice presented through AMNIMAKEN follows the transmission of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche.

How the practice works

A session may include:

Preparation

Posture, breathing and movements that prepare the body for the main exercises.

Breathing

Breathing techniques coordinated with movement. Some exercises include breath retention.

Movement

Stretching, rotation, shaking and other coordinated movements. Their purpose is to work with the breath and channels, not to develop strength or flexibility.

Attention

Attention is directed towards the breath, movement and specific areas of the body. Some exercises also include visualisation of channels and energy centres.

Rest

Active exercises are followed by periods of stillness.

The Tradition

The Tsa Lung practice offered through Oleg Gritskevich follows the system transmitted by Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche.

It belongs to the Tibetan Buddhist yogic tradition, but participants do not need to be Buddhist or follow a particular belief system.

How it is taught

Tsa Lung is offered as a short introduction, as part of selected mountain and ocean journeys, or as a dedicated five-day course.

Practices are introduced progressively and adapted when necessary to the participant’s physical condition and previous experience. Groups are kept small so that movements and breathing techniques can be taught and corrected individually.

Tsa Lung and Meditation

Meditation works primarily with awareness of thoughts, emotions and sensations. Tsa Lung works more actively through breathing and movement.

They can be practised separately or combined within the same program. Tsa Lung may also be used as preparation for meditation.

Who Can Join?

No previous experience of Tsa Lung, yoga or meditation is required.

Some practices involve stronger movement and breath retention. Exercises can be modified according to mobility and physical condition. Participants with medical conditions affecting breathing or movement should consult their doctor and inform the instructor before joining.

Tsa Lung is not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment.
