Plains Sickness

Home, after Tibet

I understood one more thing: mountain sickness is not what I went through in Rilong. It began after I came back to the plains, and it torments me every day. The mountains call me back. If it were not for work, I would come home only to get a haircut, wash and change clothes. People fall in love with mountains, and parting with them feels like parting with someone you love. Now I cannot stay down below for more than two weeks. On free weekends I drive to the mountains, even if it is only the Ukrainian Carpathians or the Polish Tatras. There it gets easier. It lets go a little.
