Two Characters

I learned two Chinese characters: man and woman, so as not to walk into the wrong toilet. There was no point learning more. In a few days we would be in Tibet, where they speak another language altogether. So for now my Chinese was exactly twice as good as my Tibetan.

男 (nán) means “man.” 女 (nǚ) means “woman.”
